LEED Schools v2009 GOLD

A new core-learning space located in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of Washington, DC, the Murch Elementary School project will include a complete rehab of the existing two-story, 43,777 SF school and build a new two-story, 70,319 SF addition. The project will implement restorative practices to the original building to preserve existing historical elements. Providing a high quality space for students and administrators is a top sustainability goal. Additionally, the school will serve as a community educational resource by participating in “School as a Teaching Tool,” a program that designs a curriculum based on the high performance features of the building. The goals are to engage the community, staff and students through education and awareness of the LEED building, and to encourage some of the sustainable practices at home.
