The National Aquarium

Lorax recently completed an ASHRAE Level I energy audit and Maryland Climate Solutions Now Act (CSNA) benchmarking for the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland, studying the Aquarium’s public facilities on Pier 3 and 4 in the Inner Harbor, as well as the Animal Care and Rescue Facility.

The ASHRAE Level I audit provided a assessment of energy usage and identified opportunities for energy efficiency and decarbonization. Lorax’s recommendations included strategies to electrify building systems, reduce energy consumption, transition to renewable energy sources, and electrify building systems. The CSNA Benchmarking is critical for tracking progress toward the Aquarium’s 2035 net-zero goal and ensuring alignment Maryland’s CSNA. Together, Lorax and the National Aquarium are making significant strides toward a sustainable future.

ASHRAE Level I Energy Audit

Lorax recently completed an ASHRAE Level I energy audit for the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland, studying the Aquarium’s public facilities on Pier 3 and 4 in the Inner Harbor, as well as the Animal Care and Rescue Facility. This initiative aligns with the Aquarium’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, a target that complements Maryland’s Climate Solutions Now Act (CSNA) mandate for net-zero emissions by 2040.

The ASHRAE Level I audit provided an assessment of energy usage and identified opportunities for energy efficiency and decarbonization. Lorax’s recommendations included strategies to electrify building systems, reduce energy consumption, transition to renewable energy sources, and electrify building systems.

In addition to the audit, Lorax assisted the Aquarium in benchmarking its energy performance in compliance with the Maryland CSNA. This benchmarking process is critical for tracking progress toward the Aquarium’s net-zero goal and ensuring alignment with state regulations. The data collected will inform future energy management strategies and help prioritize investments in sustainability.

The National Aquarium’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its facilities, reflected in their motto “Inspiring Conservation of the World’s Aquatic Treasures.”. By adopting these recommendations, the Aquarium not only advances its net-zero mission but also serves as a model for other organizations striving to combat climate change. Together, Lorax and the National Aquarium are making significant strides toward a sustainable future.
