Fitwel v2.1

CfAD just rolled out fitwel v2.1. Read more about the new version here.

Well, well, well. Have you heard about the newest release of Fitwel? The Center for Active Design (CfAD), operator of Fitwel, announced some exciting new changes to Fitwel yesterday!

In just two years on the market, Fitwel has over 700 registered projects, with about 90% of the portfolio consisting of existing buildings. This is a great way for existing buildings to benchmark their health and wellness strategies to improve the well-being of their tenants and residents. With the growing popularity, Fitwel has developed some exciting new programs to bring in even more project types.  Check out a few of their new programs below.

CfAD has announced the release of Fitwel v2.1 to further improve upon existing Fitwel programs.  This new version features a new construction pathway, newly developed Retail and Community scorecards, and newly optimized Workplace and Multifamily Residential Scorecards. Fitwel hopes to ensure that all buildings and communities are designed and optimized with health and wellness in mind.

With the New Construction pathway, new construction and renovation projects can pursue this path to achieve a Design Certification (pre-occupancy), and a Built Certification (post-occupancy).  This has greater applicability to new construction projects to focus on health and wellness throughout the design process, then continue to benchmark progress after occupancy.

Fitwel v2.1 also brings new changes to the Retail and Community programs. The Community program will emphasize public space amenities that promote equitable access to a variety of health-promoting environments such as streets, parks, plazas, and social gathering spaces. To be eligible for the Fitwel Communities program, projects must have more than one building, incorporate residential use, and at least one publicly accessible open space. The retail program will be applicable to multi-tenant complexes and standalone properties for owners, managers, and retail tenants.

CfAD is currently looking for projects interested in piloting the Community Scorecard prior to its public launch. If you think you might have a project interested in this path, give Lorax a call!
