Maryland Earns Tenth Place in USGBC Annual Top 10 Ranking

Guess who is in the Top Ten? Maryland!

Once again, Maryland has ranked on USGBC’s list of the Top 10 States for LEED; the world’s most widely used and recognized green building rating system! The list ranks states in terms of square feet of LEED space per state resident.  LEED certified buildings use less energy and water resources, save money, reduce carbon emissions, and create a healthier environment for building occupants.

Wow!  In 2018, Maryland ranked 10th in the country by the US Green Building Council. Maryland certified 113 projects representing 16.87 million square feet of real estate, which corresponds to 2.92 LEED certified square feet per resident in 2018.

Based on the press release, “The annual Top 10 States for LEED highlights projects and leaders who significantly enhance the sustainable design, construction and operation of buildings in the United States. Together, these states, which are home to 128 million North Americans, have certified a total of 2,886 projects, spanning over 615 million gross square feet.”

Your favorite green building consultants, Lorax Partnerships, were lucky enough to play a big part in that! Check out Lorax’s projects certified in 2018, highlighted below:

Lorax certified over 2.2 Million gross square feet in Maryland in 2018! That’s more than 39 football fields and 13% of the certified square feet in the State!

2019 is well on its way to being another great year for LEED certified space in Maryland and for Lorax!  So far this year, we’ve already certified 2 LEED projects. Well on our way to helping Maryland stay in the Top Ten for 2019!
