Phoenix is Hot! PBC1 Groundbreaking

Construction is heating up! Lorax was thrilled to be in attendance at the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Phoenix Biomedical Campus Building 1 (PBC1) in Phoenix, AZ earlier this year. Lorax serves as the LEED and Sustainability consultant for the PBC1 project.

Phoenix is the latest City for Wexford Science and Technology to explore, with great reason. Phoenix has been ranked third for high-tech job growth, and one of the top cities for startups and young professionals. With several Universities partnering for the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, it’s no wonder Wexford chose to develop here.

The groundbreaking ceremony was well attended, and featured speeches by Phoenix Mayor Thelda Williams, ASU President Michael M. Crow, and CEO of Wexford Jim Berens, among other distinguished guests. The inspiring speeches were followed by the opportunity to throw some dirt and kick off the project!

PBC1 will be an innovation space with a variety of biomedical based tenants, along with different disciplines needed to help those researchers succeed. The campus is the perfect breeding ground for new innovation and research to help grow something extraordinary in Phoenix.

“At 200,000 square feet, you will have everything from a scientist with an idea renting a bench and using equipment, to attorneys and marketers who can help them grow their business, to full labs, to large labs and to eventually having commercialization. … This is not just your typical building. It’s much more about driving new companies and life-saving technologies and ideas.”
— Christine Mackay, Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Phoenix

Lorax has been lucky enough to work with Wexford in the past on amazing projects at The University of Maryland Baltimore BioPark, the Durham Brightleaf District, and The Wake Forest Innovation Quarter. Wexford works with universities and major research institutions to create hubs of innovation and technology.

Lorax is thrilled to be working with this incredible team on what is sure to be a great project!
