Montgomery County is working to develop a new rehabilitation facility to replace the current center located on Avery Road. The proposed project will consist of demolishing an existing 22,290 SF structure and replacing it with a new three-story facility to house patients seeking drug treatment.

The current facility is an intermediate care center that provides residential substance abuse treatment for low-income County residents. The new center will provide inpatient detoxification services and medically managed intensive inpatient services for adult males and females. Additionally, it will house an outpatient clinic as well.

The design for the new building features an “H” shaped layout, with two wings being connected by a central core. The right wing will be considered the front of the building and will be one-story in height. It will house the main entrance and lobby, admin offices, and the facility’s kitchen and dining areas. The left wing and central core will be three-stories high. It will house the outpatient clinic on the first floor, the detox care units on the second floor, and the intermediate care facility on the third floor. The central core will act as a connector of the two wings and houses the main circulation between all three floors, including the main elevator and stairwell. The first floor will house conference rooms and all clinical functions would be housed on the second and third floors. The approximate building footprint of the proposed facility is 16,200 SF. The decrease in footprint size will allow for adjacent site improvements, additional parking, and the addition of outdoor amenities.
