The Chesapeake Bay Trust engaged Lorax to develop a holistic sustainability plan to guide on-going renovations and future operations at their new headquarters in Annapolis, Maryland.
Through facility tours and guided charrettes, Lorax gained a comprehensive understanding of the Trust’s goals – both big-picture concepts like minimizing the organization’s carbon footprint and smaller (but exciting!) details like solar panels and kayak storage. In August 2019, Lorax delivered a Sustainability Concept Plan outlining those high-level goals alongside measurable metrics, specific strategies, and certification options that would bring the Trust’s vision to life while keeping considerations like cost and feasibility in mind.
Rather than squeezing the Trust’s unique ambitions into an existing green building standard, Lorax drafted the plan using a new, personally-tailored framework consisting of Energy, Water, Materials & Waste, and Health & Wellness impact categories. Collectively, the recommended strategies constitute a plan that will launch the new Chesapeake Bay Trust headquarters into the vanguard of green building and operations while also furthering its mission of measurably improving local communities and increasing resource stewardship.
