Towson University is renovating and expanding its University Union, a facility that serves as a gathering place for students and faculty and that includes several staff and student group offices, the bookstore, the campus dining hall along with various other food service venues, student services, and conference and event facilities. Built in 1970, the building is undersized for a student population of over 22,000 undergraduates. The project includes the extensive renovation of the current 162,000 SF building and an 80,000 SF addition, to be completed in four phases. The new facility will encompass an open, student centric space that will improve circulation and offer flexible areas in order to accommodate current and future students needs. When completed, the new building will include a 12,000 SF ballroom, a 300-seat auditorium, brand new food service and dining areas, and feature indoor-outdoor spaces. Significant upgrades to the building envelope and the MEP infrastructure of the existing building are expected.
